Check out this simple and student-friendly template for students to track their reading. This can either be used at home or in school or both. Students will record the title of their book, their start and stop time, and then, most importantly, will write a short summary about what they read. This is a great way to improve comprehension and ensure focus during reading, all while improving writing. There is a space on the far end for students to initial if you choose to have it used at home. This is a great source of both documentation, accountability, responsibility and streamlining your expectations any your classroom!

This 12 question assessment covers students understanding of setting and characters. There are three separate parts to this assessment that can easily be used for a quiz, test, homework, study guide, independent work or small group work. It starts off with asking for the simple definitions of each key word. It then transitions to written scenarios where students identify the implied or directly stated character(s) and setting and finishes off with two pictures that student analyze for the setting and character. This simple assessment will offer the teacher valuable insight into students' understanding of what a setting is and what the characters are.

As we all know, independent reading at home has a huge impact on students' success in the classroom. Building stamina in our children while they read independently is extremely important. This simple bar graph template provides a great tracking system for the minutes of independnet reading per night. There are 15 columns for potential bars to track anywhere from one to thirty five minutes of reading. Students and parents are therefore able to track and take ownership over this growth and development. It also serves as a great resouces of documentation.
